East RD 1: Wall, Wizards Clip Hawks To Take Game 2 NBA Playoffs

G2: Atlanta Hawks 101-109 Washington Wizards

The Wizards left it for late, but won Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Round 1 tie against the Hawks on the back off John Wall (32 points, 9 assists) and Bradley Beal’s (31 points) game-winning performances. The Wizards shot 45.3% in the win and overcame a tough third quarter where the Hawks looked like they were ready to make this a match.

Washington started off strong in the first quarter, taking a sizeable advantage over the Hawks with John Wall taking over. But then Atlanta responded strong to take the quarter 24-23 on the back of Dennis Schroder’s 12-point opening quarter display.

The second quarter though, was a completely different story as the Wizards steamrolled past their opposition outscoring them 28-19 with Jason Smith taking control of offense as well as defense. Wall consolidated for Washington as well – his overall tally standing at 17 points at the end of the half.

But the Hawks showed no signs of giving in and dropped 35 points in the third quarter to not only make a comeback, but take a 4-point lead from the Wizards on their home court. Paul Millsap was at the forefront of this resurgence with 14 points in that quarter alone.

With all to play for in the last quarter, and the scores at 98-103, Bradley Beal sank a clutch three-pointer to all but end the Hawks’ hope of a Game 2 win. The Wizards were clinical in the last quarter, posting 35 points and kept the Hawks to 23. They now have a 2-0 lead in the series and have made the chances of a Hawks’ comeback, a tough ask.
