Portland Trail Blazers 109-121 Golden State Warriors

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum turned up one of their best performances as a duo and it still wasn’t enough as the Golden State Warriors took Game 1 of the Western Conference Round 1 match-up. The highlight of the game though was Kevin Durant making a successful playoff debut with his new team.

The first half ended with both the Warriors and Trail Blazers on level terms. But the backcourt duo of CJ McCollum (41 points, 57.1% shooting) and Damian Lillard (34 points) combined for an explosive first half half. They would go onto add 75 of the Trail Blazers’ 109 points.

But the second half saw the tide turn in the favour of last year’s runner-ups. Kevin Durant, in his GSW Playoffs debut, dropped a team-high 32 points and 10 rebounds from 60% shooting.

The third quarter was once again go-time for Curry as he quickened his pace and eventually ended the game with 29 points from 47.5% shooting.

But the Game 1 win for the Warriors was largely down to the defensive effort of Draymond Green. He shut the Trail Blazers down in the fourth quarter, allowing them only 21 points, after the first three quarters ended in scores being all-level.

With the second game also taking place at the Oracle Arena, the Trail Blazers need more from the rest of their squad after today’s back-breaking display by CJ McCollum. A probable return for Jusuf Nurkic might help turn the tide for Portland in Game 2.
